Reviews:
4.0 Andy Briones (Visual Velocity)
“The punchlines are relentless in Slumber Party. Its quick wit, sharp dialogue and rollicking slapstick are endearing.” (Read full review)
2.5 Rianne Hill Soriano (Business World)
“In between parts that perpetuate the stereotypes against the LGBT community, the film decides to sweep the characters’ dastardly deeds under the rug and simply forget the offensive aspect of the story.” (Read full review)
2.0 Spot.ph
“It’s sincere in its intentions and it really wants to say something. Unfortunately, it fumbles.” (Read full review)
2.0 Nicol Latayan (Tit for Tat)
“No doubt about it, Slumber Party is hilarious and a riot. With that said, it also tends to go overboard most of the time.” (Read full review)
1.5 Oggs Cruz (Twitch)
“Dela Cruz and his scribes’ most glaring misstep is to turn an act of sexual assault against the captured straight man into a boisterous act of hilarity that becomes completely forgotten in pursuit of the film’s lofty objectives.” (Read full review)
1.0 Philbert Dy (Click the City)
“I have had a full year to question my initial reaction to Slumber Party. I’ve sincerely tried to find justifications for what I view as a grave error in judgment. But it’s still inconceivable to me that the film treats sexual assault so lightly.” (Read full review)
1.0 Ira Lastrilla (Cinephiles)
“In the name of liberal values, I will imprison you. It appears that the central conceit of this movie is to have a group of gay men tie up one straight guy, and by bearing witness to what really goes on in the lives of these gay men he will eventually put away his masculine pretenses and not only sympathize with these men but be ‘converted’ into becoming one of them. Not a lot of people seem to remember that the straight guy’s ‘re-education’ happens exactly because he is in chains, and fewer people seem to be offended by it. It doesn’t matter that throughout the night the straight guy gets gagged, harassed, or even raped (RAPE FOR THE LOLZ!) because in the end we will all be chummy with one another, won’t we? There are few films (maybe none) that are as bad as this.”
1.0 Nico Quejano (Cinephiles)
“Yes, Archie Alemania was funny and the actors were amazing, especially Gaymother whose commitment to the material i admire. But there is something really offensive about how the reason of three gay men went out the window just because the ‘robber’ is cute… or how sexual assault was forgotten by everyone, including the victim. Make them laugh and make them forget about the molestation. Even when they took a stab at some relevance (HIV), their only concern is ‘Paano nung nag-bu-booking tayo?’ Seriously?”
